I'm sorry it has been so long since my last post, but things have really amped up. And by amped up I mean I just took a two hour exam that was worth 60% of my final grade! It sounds like a lot, wait scratch that, it is alot... but now the class is over. Well over in the sense that I will no longer have written exams. The best part of the London Economics Study Group is that mid way through the semester we have internships! The exam I just took was for the first part of that course and now we get to start our internships!! Instead of class I will be working 20 hours a week with an independant consultant.
Traveling to Dublin was not what I was expecting at all. My good friend warned me it was very touristy. Even though she studied abroad in Ireland I still didn't believe her. And because I didn't believe her I got sucked into doing all the touristy things. I wanted to see castles, cliffs, sheep, rolling hills, pubs, meet Irish people, listen to Irish music, and do anything and everything Irish... but the two short days I was there wasn't enough. Moral to that story: I'm going back!
I don't want you to think traveling to Dublin was dull because it was quite the opposite. The adventure started once we landed. We decided to pay extra for an express bus to Dublin only to get on the regular, stopping on every corner bus. Then when we finally arrived at our hostel, we found out we signed up for a co-ed room. There were five of us females and Charlie from France assigned to room 7. We all had sleepless nights waiting for Charlie to come home only to be let down. Charlie checked in but never actually made it to the room. The next two days we did the tourist thing. We traveled around Dublin and saw everything that was recommended to us. It was really cool, but as my dad put it, once you have been in London other European cities are not comparable (but only because I was doing the touristy things). For our flight home, we decided to get to the airport 3 hours early (we are notorious for having complications). Traveling through customs, boarding the plane, and landing in London went smoothly. The delay came when we touched down. Instead of hearing the normal, "Please stay seated with your belts fastened until we arrive at the gate" we heard "Please stay seated... for awhile."
We were greeted at the gate by 10 police officers. The wait was for a woman from the back of the plane to be arrested and escorted off.
I'm not sure where I was while all this happened, but the woman escorted off was another passenger's mistress. I say 'was' because her romantic "boyfriend" took her to Dublin only to dump her on the plane ride home. She obviously had visions of marrying this married man because her initial reaction was to punch him and then punch the flight attendant for interfering; hence her arrest.
We touched down at 9pm, deboarded around 9:30pm, made it through customs by 10:30pm, and finished off the night getting on what we thought was the express train only to find out, yet again, we got on the regular, stopping on every corner train. We made it home closer to midnight. We are notorious for complications.
Its staying eventful here in London and I wouldn't have it any other way! I love being abroad!
This week: MY BIRTHDAY!!!! another exam, and Amsterdam!!! Cheers!
