Throughout my time here in Japan, I have been taking many pictures and shooting short videos of the places and things that I see. Some are about daily life, others are about aspects of Japanese society that differ from our own, and others have to do with jinjas (shrines) and oteras (temples). Feel free to comment or ask about any of them or the things mentioned in the explanations.
These are pictures and videos pertaining to my daily life--the campus that we have classes on, the city where my host family lives, and my host family.
This is the view of Kyoto from atop the roof of the Kyoto University of Art and Design, the campus where we are taking our Japanese classes (though the classes are taught by a different organization, called the Kyoto Institute of Culture and Language, KICL). The University is located in the Norteast corner of the city, and it takes about 45 minutes on the number 5 by bus to get there from the JR (Japanese Railroad) Station.
A rice field in a neighborhood near the school.
A Shinto shrine on my way to the train station every day that I did not notice until over a month passed by. It is to a local fox God of the area. Right behind it is a huge billboard for the store whose parking lot it is practically located in. It is right near an intersection and a pig pen is on the other side of the street. You can see all this in the video below (PICT0747.AVI).
A view of Biwa Lake at night. It is the largest lake in Japan and Ootsu, the city that I live in, is one of the cities around it.
My host father (called Otoosan by everyone, including my host mother, who is called Okaasan by everyone) and Sasuke chan.
Okaasan (host mom) and Sai (Saizo) chan.
Tomoyo san, my host older sister, and me.
